Rear bumper lips also known as rear lip spoilers or rear bumper valance install onto the bottom of your factory bumper and lowers the ground clearance while adding a unique aggressive stance. A rear bumper lip is the perfect upgrade for a customer that wants to change the look of their vehicle but does not want to go through the cost of a complete body kit. When it comes to a custom rear bumper lips they can be produced in a few different materials. The most common material used for aftermarket custom bumper lips is FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic). FRP rear bumper lips are most common due to the low cost of manufacturing thus having the largest selection. These bumper lips are light weight and affordable but they are susceptible to cracking if you bottom out hard or run into a curb. One of the good things about FRP is that it is the most customizable and repairable of any materials used for aerodynamics. Other materials used for production also include polyurethane and carbon fiber. Polyurethane products are extremely expensive to manufacture but offer the most flexibility and durability on street driven vehicles. The down side to polyurethane is that it is very heavy and due to costs has a much smaller selection available. Carbon fiber bumper lips are extremely light weight and most commonly used in motorsports as well as on luxury and premium sports cars. When purchasing a rear bumper lip please be advised that it will require professional installation as custom parts follow a different process than OEM parts. Always consult with a shop that has experience with body kits and custom vehicles to get the best results! For fiberglass and carbon fiber rear lips the rear bumper will usually have to be removed to install the lip. With the bumper off the vehicle it can flex inward to allow the lip to wrap around and into place. With polyurethane lips the product is often flexible enough to install without removing the bumper cover from the vehicle.
